Kalavati complains of broken promises

New Delhi: The entire nation knows who Kalavati is. A Dalit widow from Vidharba. She became a household name last summer after Rahul Gandhi spoke about her in his nuclear deal speech in Parliament.

But almost a year later, Kalavati, the widow of a debt-ridden farmer in Maharashtra suicide country Vidarbha says her situation still has not changed. She has nine mouths to feed and has to repay a debt of  Rs 90,000.

She has now come to Delhi to meet Rahul Gandhi hoping that the Congress being in control at the Centre would make a difference.

The Vidarbha administration, she claims showed her the door.

And now for some politicians, Kalavati seems to have become a mascot of women's reservation.

As Lalu Yadav put it, "Women's Reservation Bill should help women like Kalavati come to Parliament."
