Goutam Ghose and Kamal Haasan
New Delhi:
Actor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan and director Goutam Ghose were today included in the Shyam Benegal-led committee that has been set up by the government to revamp the censor board.
The government
had formed the panel on January 1 to take a look at the functioning of the board that has been the precinct of several controversies in the past months.
It had been felt that more regions of the country should be given representation on the panel and so it has been suggested that Mr Haasan, Mr Ghosh and filmmaker Shaji Karun should be included in it, Shyam Benegal had told Press Trust of India.
Mr Benegal and other members of the committee, including filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, adman Piyush Pandey and film journalist Bhawana Somayaa
had last week met Information and Broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitley and Minister of State Rajyavardhan Rathore was also present in Mumbai.
Mr Jaitley had last week said that film certification guidelines needed contemporary interpretation and should be as non-discretionary as possible.
Earlier, before the panel was set up, Mr Jaitley had made his desire known that he would like the Certification Board to be "controversy-free" and added that he had discussed with experts on what the future role of the body should be.
