Bengaluru: Karnataka's Special Public Prosecutor, B V Acharya, has confirmed that he has recommended the Karnataka government to file an appeal against the acquittal of J Jayalalithaa in the Supreme Court.

Mr Acharya had pointed out calculation errors in Karnataka High Court's Monday's judgment. He claimed these made it appear that the disproportionate assets were a much smaller share of Ms Jayalalithaa's legitimate income than they actually were. But it was not just these errors, but the overall merits of the case that made him recommend an appeal, he said.

It is now up to the Karnataka government to decide whether to accept his recommendation and approach the Supreme Court.

Ms Jayalalithaa had been found guilty of amassing Rs 66 crore of illegal wealth by a special court in Bengaluru in September last year.
