Karnataka Government Starts Dengue Awareness Drive in Schools

School teachers attending a workshop on dengue awareness in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Karnataka: The Karnataka government has hit upon a simple way to spread awareness about dengue among the people, through school teachers. The formula is to teach the teachers about precautions to be taken, and they will explain the same to their students.

The mosquito borne disease has affected thousands of people over the past few years in India alone.

The state government is organising awareness workshops for teachers in Bengaluru.

A local health officer Dr Lokesh told NDTV, "Main motive is to see that how this school heads are made completely aware of what is the importance of larva, mosquito larva, how can you eliminate it with a co-operation with children".

The aim is to help students identify the larva or source from where the deadly mosquitoes breed in this season. They will be encouraged to inform school authorities about such locations where the concerned health officials can take appropriate action to eliminate them.

A school administrator, Sanjita Shumaila said, "They have taught us how to prevent these diseases and to speak about. Schools have a lot of population and are the main source through which we can spread the awareness very fast."

Another teacher Sayed Iqram said, "Until now, we did not know that aquariums also have a connection with this. Knowing this point is very useful for us."

Students who identify and bring the larva will be rewarded as well.

In Malleswaram area, some locals have started spreading awareness about dengue online, where photographs of breeding mosquitoes can be sent. Local authorities are promising quick action.

BJP lawmaker CN Aswathnarayan told NDTV, "Anywhere any person clicks a photograph of the breeding place we will get the location and time, where the breeding is taking place. By making use of the portal malleshwaram.sahaaya.in, we will try to eliminate the breeding places."

Doctors say, at this time of year it is always best to take a fever seriously, but panic is never helpful.
