Bangalore:
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken the lead in elections to the
zilla and
taluk panchayats in Karnataka. Chief Minister Yeddyurappa, who has been facing serious corruption allegations has managed to put his party in the lead.
The BJP has won the majority of the seats in the Shimoga Zila panchayat in the CM's constituency.
The ruling BJP is confident of doing well this time round. In the last elections the BJP had a much smaller base but this time the party feels it has the edge.
"101% we will be in number one place, JD(S) in number two place and Congress in number three place," said Yeddyurappa.
The campaigning for the polls saw the opposition targeting the BJP Government on alleged corruption in land allocations and mining, while the ruling party asserting that people would teach the former a lesson for levelling "baseless" charges and vote for it for its development programmes.
