Mumbai:
Convicted terrorist Pakistani terrorist Ajmal Amir Kasab on Thursday made an appearance in court via video-conferencing. He was seen smiling and giggling once in a while but said nothing.
The Pakistani terrorist on Wednesday refused to appear before the Bombay High Court through a video conference link saying he was not interested in hearing arguments on confirmation of his death sentence but the judges told his lawyer to find out his grievances. Kasab had thrown tantrums by spitting at a webcam yesterday.
On Tuesday, Justice Ranjana Desai had said in the court that it is not possible to bring Kasab to the High Court as he is a security hazard.
Desai said there is no requirement of the law to keep him present. However all due facilities are given to him for video conferencing.
"We do not want to be partisan or target him as all accused are same for us. He can meet his lawyers every day and talk to them. Only if Kasab wants he should be produced for video conferencing. Otherwise he should be kept in his prison cell," said Justice Ranjana Desai.
"No separate action has been taken against Kasab for spitting on Tuesday," the judge said.
On Tuesday, Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam continued with his arguments on the confirmation of Kasab's death sentence for the third day in a row.
Kasab has also filed an appeal challenging the capital punishment. The state too has filed an appeal against the trial court's order acquitting Faheem Ansari and Sabauddin Ahmed due to "doubtful evidence."
