Kasab retreated after police firing outside CST
Mumbai:

After killing many persons at the crowded Chhatrapati Shivaji terminus (CST) on November 26 last, Pakistani gunmen Ajmal Kasab and Abu Ismael departed from the local side towards the west but had to change their route and retreated after facing heavy firing from police outside CST.

A CCTV footage, screened in the court on Thursday, showed them leaving CST local side at 2209 hours and re-entering CST from the same gate at 2216 hours.

According to prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam, after the duo came out from CST, they faced a volley of bullets fired by Police Inspector Sandeep Khiratkar, API Atul Kshirsagar and PSI Kiran Kumar Bhosale. They decided to retreat and re-entered CST.

The CCTV footage showed that they exited and re-entered after seven minutes. But the firing outside CST was not shown in the film which captured the movements of Kasab and Ismael.

However, quality of the footage was poor and the faces of Kasab and Ismael were not clearly seen.

Footage of cameras in the main waiting hall of the terminus, where maximum casualties took place, was not available since the devices placed there were not functioning on the day and were scheduled for maintenance.

The court was only shown footage recorded by cameras on the suburban section of the terminus.
