Srinagar, New Delhi:
Kashmir continues to remain tense after fresh violence on Tuesday left four people dead, taking the total number of deaths in the Valley to 26 since Friday.
The Centre has decided to send an additional 2,000 paramilitary personnel to Kashmir, adding to the existing 3,200 currently based in the state. The additional forces will be deployed in all trouble-torn areas.
Protesters set a police post on fire in south Srinagar, when security forces opened fire. In another incident, one person was killed in Shalteng in Srinagar.
Batmaloo area where a 9-year-old was killed during protests on Saturday also saw overnight clashes.
The Valley has seen a fierce wave of violence since Friday. In the last five days, 26 people have been killed, many of them teenagers. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reviewed security in the Valley late last night.
The cycle of violence has to be broken, urged Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in Delhi after an emergency meeting with the Prime Minister and Home Minister on Monday. (
