Kashmir Valley Receives Rain, Snowfall

Srinagar: Many areas in the higher reaches of Kashmir Valley today received fresh snowfall while the plains, including Srinagar, experienced rains, with the Meteorological Department predicting more showers over the next two days.

There are reports of snowfall in the higher reaches of the Valley, including Amarnath cave shrine, Sheshnag, Panjtarni, Affarwat in Gulmarg and other areas, an official said.

The plains were lashed by rains overnight. While Srinagar received 13.1 mm of rainfall during the night, Gulmarg and Pahalgam tourist resorts received 27.2 mm and 23.6 mm rains till 8.30 am, he said.

Kupwara received 37.2 mm, Qazigund 10 mm and Kokernag 11.9 mm rainfall, the official added.

However, despite rains, the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway remained open for vehicles, a Traffic Control Room official said.

The Meteorological Department has forecast fairly widespread rains in the Valley today with isolated showers tomorrow.
