Kerala: BJP, Congress Protest Against Allegedly Offensive Crossword Puzzle

The political parties have claimed that the incident is politically motivated.

Guruvayoor: Members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and the Kerala Students Union - the youth wings of the BJP and the Congress -- at the Sri Krishna College in Guruvayoor on Monday organised a protest march against a crossword puzzle in the college magazine.

The crossword puzzle contained allegedly offensive clues on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, chief minister Oommen Chandy and Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Shashi Tharoor.

On Sunday, police had arrested nine students, including the editor of the magazine. They had been released on bail right away.

Now a case of provocation intended to cause riots has been registered against 11 students of the college and the principal.

The BJP has claimed that the incident is politically motivated.

Rajesh, the party's spokesperson, says, "This is a deliberate effort to defame Narendra Modi. SFI (Students' Federation of India, the student's wing of the Communist Party of India - Marxist) has gotten into the hands of some terrorists. The CPI-M must explain what has happened."

In a similar incident in Thrissur last week, the principal and some students of a polytechnic institute were arrested for including Prime Minister Modi among a list of 'negative faces', along with Adolf Hitler and Osama Bin Laden.
