Eight schoolchildren have died in Kerala's Malappuram district, after a country boat taking 31 of them back from school flipped over onWednesday.
All the students belonged to the Moorkanad Higher Secondary School.
Thelocal fire brigade has started search and rescue operations for theothers; three have already been rescued and shifted to hospital.
On September 30, close to 40 tourists died when their boat flipped over on the Thekaddy Lake near the Periyar National Park.
Basicsafety rules were violated in that case. Tourists were not wearing lifejackets. After the accident, it was discovered that the boat hadtechnical faults.
