Kerala Government Announces Rs 50 Lakh To Family Of Pathankot Martyr

Lieutenant Colonel Niranjan Kumar was a member of the bomb disposal squad of the National Security Guards.

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Government today announced a solatium of Rs 50 lakh to the family of Lieutenant Colonel Niranjan Kumar, who was martyred while defusing a grenade at the scene of the terror attack at the Pathankot IAF base.

It also offered a job for Dr Radhika, wife of Lieutenant Colonel Kumar, in government service.

A decision in this regard was taken at the state cabinet meeting held in Thiruvananthapuram, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said.

Besides this, entire educational expenses of the martyred soldier's daughter would be borne by the government, he added.

It was also decided to name after Lieutenant Colonel Kumar the government ITI coming up at Elambulassery, the home village of the brave solider.

Mr Chandy said a stadium coming up at the Palakkad Medical College would also be named after Lieutenant Colonel Kumar.

The 32-year-old bomb expert with the National Security Guard was killed on Sunday last.
