Thiruvananthapuram:
Former Chief Justice of India, KG Balakrishnan, is under intense scrutiny with the Kerala police now probing the assets of his relatives.
The Special Branch of the Kerala police has begun an inquiry into alleged disproportionate assets of Balakrishnan's relatives.
The intelligence report accessed by NDTV gives details of property acquired by Balakrishnan's relatives from 2004-2010, which includes his tenure as Chief Justice of India.
According to the report, KG Balakrishnan's first son-in-law PV Sreenijan and his wife jointly own property worth over Rs 40 lakh, though it has been grossly undervalued. Ironically, Sreenijan declared his annual income as a mere Rs 25,000 in 2006.
MJ Benny, the second son-in-law, has prime property worth crores in Ernakulam. And Balakrishnan's brother K G Bhaskaran has allegedly undervalued the land he bought, says the report.
The report has been sent to the Home Department for further action.
Last week, the Income Tax Department had said it had found black money in the possession of Balakrishnan's relatives. A vigilance probe is also in its final stages.
The former Chief Justice has himself been hesitant to disclose his Income tax returns citing security reasons.
"I wrote to authorities not to disclose my I-T returns because it has my PAN number and bank account number. These details may be misused and that is the reason I wanted the authorities not to disclose my I-T returns, nobody would like to reveal personal details," said Balakrishnan.
Now with this intelligence report the noose seems to be tightening around the former Chief Justice's relatives.
