New Delhi: A week after his appeal to people to buy khadi, khadi sales have gone up by 125%, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in his second radio address to the nation on Sunday.

"The last time, I urged people to purchase khadi. I have been told that khadi sales have increased by almost 125 per cent," he said.

The reason, the Prime Minister said, was that the people have started caring about the country.

"The youth of the nation wants to do something and are doing things. People care. People now want to take up social responsibilities," he said.

The Prime Minister's appeal to buy khadi had come during his first radio address to the nation on October 3, which was also Dusshera.

While making a pitch for his "Make in India" campaign, which is expected to make the nation into a global manufacturing hub, the Prime Minister had also asked the people to buy "at least one khadi product".

"If you buy Khadi you light the lamp of prosperity in the house of a poor person," he had said.
