Lucknow:
A member of terrorist organization Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF), also associated with Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), was arrested by anti-terror squad of Uttar Pradesh Police from Saharanpur on Sunday, a senior officer said.
Gurjant Singh, a native of Kurukshetra district in Haryana, was arrested from a hotel on Doon Road in Saharanpur and an Italian pistol and some documents were seized from him, Additional Director General of Police Brij Lal said here.
The arrested man allegedly acted as a link between KZF and BKI, the officer said.
He said for the last few days, information was being received regarding activities of Gurjant in the state.
"He was living with his family in hiding in Naya Gaon Khanora in Jyotiba Phule Nagar," the ADG said.
He claimed that during interrogation, Gurjant revealed that on the directives of KZF leader Balwinder Singh Posi, who is based in the US, he used to supply arms to members of the organisation, besides providing them shelter.
On the directives of Posi, he allegedly procured two pistols and 20 cartridges from a person in Muzaffarnagar and supplied them to two men-Jagmohan Singh and Ramandeep Singh alias Goldi, he said.
"These weapons were later used in the murder of president of National Sikh Sangat Rulda Singh and Posi gave Gurjant Rs 1.3 lakh for weapons," Brij Lal said.
He claimed that on the directives of Jagtar Singh Tara, an accused in former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh's murder, Gurjant gave shelter to Harminder Raj Singh, main accused in Shringar cinema hall blast in Ludhiana.
"Tara, a member of Babbar Khalsa, who was an accused in Beant Singh murder case, escaped from Buril jail in 2005 and is currently based in Pakistan," the ADG said.
He said Gurjant was hiding in UP from more than two years and Posi used to supply him money from America. The ADG said that Punjab Police had been informed about the catch and their team is likely to arrive here soon.
