New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is in Punjab to participate in a protest against the new controversial farm laws. The Congress MP from Kerala's Wayanad will hold a series of public meetings with farmers in the state as part of the "Kheti Bachao Yatra" (Protect the agricultural sector), which is aimed to highlight the Congress' stand against these laws that were cleared by the parliament last month amid fiery protests by the opposition.
He will also be holding a tractor rally as a part of the first day's schedule of the three-day Yatra along with Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar and other party leaders.
Rahul Gandhi's visit to Punjab comes days after Amarinder Singh held a sit-in against the farm laws. Punjab and several other states have witnessed fierce protests by farmers in the last week over the three laws that were cleared by the President on Sunday.

Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala today said the Congress party is misguiding gullible farmers on agricultural laws. "It is well known to the farmers who are safeguarding their interests. Congress party is misguiding gullible farmers on agriculture laws," Mr Chautala said. "The state and central government have taken many historical decisions in the interest of farmers and work is being done seriously to double the farmer's income. No effective step was taken by Congress in the direction of prosperity of farmers and increasing their income but Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not only taken many revolutionary steps in interest of farmers but has also given record compensation to farmers," he added.

Rahul Gandhi "Disconnected" With Reality Of Farmers, Says Union Minister V Muraleedharan
Union Minister V Muraleedharan today slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his protests against the Centre's new farm laws and accused him of being "disconnected" from reality and indulging in "publicity stunts". Addressing the media, the Minister of State for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs, alleged that the Congress, which championed reforms in the agriculture sector and included it in their manifesto, has now gone back on its word. "The party is resorting to violence and vandalism out of frustration of losing relevance in Indian politics," he claimed.

Rahul Gandhi, while addressing a rally in Punjab, said: Can farmers survive without Minimum Support Price (MSP)? The country knows farmers of India, Punjab, Haryana cannot survive without MSP. PM Modi says Mandi is not needed. I know the system has flaws and shortcomings. But the system cannot be destroyed. Make the system better. PM says farmers can sell their produce anywhere. But, mandis will be destroyed. Roads that have been built, linking the mandis, will be destroyed."
