Kidnapping scare returns to haunt Patna

Patna: Safety in Bihar is under the spotlight again. A seven-year-old boy was kidnapped from a pool car on way to his school on Monday.

The boy was kidnapped at gunpoint from the heart of Patna. The class 1 student of one of Patna's most prominent schools was picked up by three men on a bike at around 8.30 am.

The boy's father is the regional manager of a leading Pharmacy in the city. The police have launched a massive search operation and a public appeal for help.

What's more shocking is that the kidnapping took place at a high security VIP zone, just a stone's throw away from the office of the Patna Senior Superintendent of Police and the homes of many high profile officers, including the Patna District Magistrate, the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court, and the SSP himself.

"It is a very unfortunate incident. We are doing our best to ensure that the boy is recovered swiftly. Anyone caught with the boy will be given strict punishment," said P N Rai, Inspector General of Police, Patna zone.

The police are suspecting an inside job and have questioned the autorickshaw driver. For Patna, which has been trying to shed the tag of the country's kidnapping capital, it's a return of its worst nightmare.
