New Delhi: The Supreme Court has stayed the death sentence of Mohamad Jamaludin Nasir, who was convicted in the American Center attack in Kolkata in 2002.
Nasir was one of three people convicted in the attack in which five policemen were killed. Three people have been convicted, including Aftab Ansari.
In February, the Calcutta High Court had upheld the death sentence to both Nasir and Aftab Ansari. Ansari, Nasir and five others had appealed to the high court against the death sentence given to them by a city sessions court.
Ansari and Nasir's death sentence was upheld while the punishment of Hasrat Alam, Sakib Akhtar and Bobby was reduced to life sentence. Two others were freed due to lack of evidence.
