The Kolkata Police, which made massive security arrangements for the protest march "Nabannno Abhijan", tried to contain the protesters as they broke barricades during the protest in the city today. Nabanno is the state secretariat, from where the Government of West Bengal operates. It houses the offices of the Chief Minister and other top ministers and officials.
The protest march to the state secretariat was announced by an unregistered body claiming to be a students' organisation, to demand justice for the rape-murder of the 31-year-old doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College on August 9.
Here are the LIVE updates in the Kolkata protests:

"The next course of action will be decided after a response from Lalbazar," he said.
CBI To Consult AIIMS Experts On DNA, Forensic Evidence
The CBI will consult experts from the All India Institute of Medical Science on the DNA and forensic reports related to the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College, officials said Tuesday.
In order to build a watertight case, the CBI will send the reports to AIIMS to seek their opinion on the case, they said.
The reports will also help the agency ascertain if Sanjay Roy was the only accused who committed the crime or if others were involved, they said.
So far the agency is working on the leads that Roy was the only accused in the crime but involvement of others will only be ruled out after receiving the opinion of AIIMS experts, the officials said.
