London:
Foreign Minister S M Krishna met his Australian counterpart, Stephen Smith, in London on Wednesday.
Krishna says he made it clear that the repeated attacks against Indians in Australia are a problem. "I am hoping these unprovoked attacks will be checkmated," said Krishna, adding that India expects the Australian government to contain the situation.
Krishna pointed out that India is concerned that there have been a dozen attacks against Indians in the last month. However, he added that he is "very happy that they have taken our concerns seriously and that a high-level group has been set up" by the Australian government to investigate these attacks.
"As soon as this high-level working group comes out with their result, they will advise the Indian government," said Krishna. The Australian committee meets for the first time at the end of this week.
Australia has reassured India that more policemen are patrolling the areas where Indian students live and work.
