Intrusions by China in the Ladakh sector are once again in the news. While India has said that the Chinese trespassed on Indian territory, Beijing has denied the charges. But what is the reality?

Accessing this vital frontier is not easy. The mountains are forbidding and the weather is hostile. But the biggest problem for soldiers seems to be the poorly demarcated boundary.

Standing about 100 metres from the Line of Actual Control (LAC), it becomes too difficult to determine the Indian territory from the Chinese side. The Chinese tent on the other side and an Indian hut help ease the confusion. No wonder there are differing perceptions between India and China on the exact location of the boundary.

As a result when India talks about intrusions, the Chinese say that their forces are patrolling well within their side. But, this debate can't be settled until the border issue has a final solution.
