Union Minister Ajay Mishra, under increasing pressure to quit over his jailed son, who is accused of running over farmers in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri, is seen in a video lunging at a journalist and throwing abuses at the media.
"Don't ask these stupid questions. Dimag kharaab hai kya be (Are you mad?)," the minister is seen shouting when asked by a journalist about a probe report that recommends new charges against his son Ashish Mishra.
Mr Mishra, the Union Minister of State for Home in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government, is also seen pouncing on a reporter and snatching his mic. "Mic band karo be (shut the mic)," he says.
The video shows him using an expletive and calling reporters "chor (thieves)".
The incident took place when the minister was inaugurating an oxygen plant at Lakhimpur Kheri, where he visited his son in jail yesterday.
Opposition demands for Mr Mishra's sacking from the Union Cabinet have become louder after a Special Investigation Team report said the killing of farmers at Lakhimpur Kheri on October 3 was a "planned conspiracy". The farmers were crushed, allegedly by an SUV driven by Ashish Mishra, "with intent to commit murder" and it was "not death by negligence", the report said.
It also recommended that the charges of rash driving against Ashish Mishra and the others be modified and an attempt to murder charge and the charge of voluntarily causing hurt be added. Ashish Mishra and others are already facing murder and conspiracy charges.
"We want the minister to resign but the PM is not ready. The way the government was forced to take back farm laws, it will be forced to sack the minister," said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who had given notice for a discussion in parliament on the report.
So far, the BJP has firmly refused to give in to pressure and remove Mr Mishra, insisting that he cannot be held responsible for anything his son did.
However, with Uttar Pradesh and four other states set to vote early next year, the BJP is finding it increasingly difficult to defend its minister, who is accused of shielding his son.
