As the Indian Institutes of Technology gear up to accommodate 27 per cent OBC quota, the IIT joint entrance exam was held on Sunday.
Over three lakh candidates are appearing for the exam - a staggering 70 percent rise in the number of candidates over the last year.
There are a total of 6,600 seats. Out of proposed 8 new IITs, at least three are expected to be operational this year, which will add 2,000 more seats.
IIT Roorkee has already invited applications with the OBC status details of the candidates.
