Kolkata: The Kolkata Bar Association has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Calcutta High Court demanding a CBI inquiry into the Lalgarh killings.
The PIL also demands Rs 25 lakh compensation to families of those killed and Rs 10 lakh to those who suffered bullet injuries.
The chief justice has granted leave to file the PIL and directed petitioners to serve notice to the Advocate General of West Bengal, the Additional Solicitor General of India and the Ministry of Law and Justice. The notice has also been served.
Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee has also expressed concern on the killings. "It is very unfortunate and totally unacceptable that every day there are killings and political clashes in West Bengal," he said.
At least seven people were shot dead in Netai village in Lalgarh and another 15 injured on Friday in what's being seen as the latest political clash between the CPM and the Trinamool.
The Trinamool called it a genocide and blamed armed CPM squads but the state Home Secretary called it a political clash.
