Barring election of Deputy Speaker, Opposition Congress continued to disrupt the proceedings in the Rajasthan Assembly for the third consecutive day today over the Lalit Modi controversy even as the House passed four bills amid chaos.
Congress members demanded resignation of Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje for allegedly helping former IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi and protested in the well of the House with posters.
As soon as the House assembled at 11 am, Congress members waved posters bearing slogans against the Chief Minister. They trooped into the well of the House demanding her resignation.
Speaker Kailash Meghwal called the listed question and told Leader of Opposition Rameshwar Dudi he would listen to him later and sought his cooperation in bringing the House in order but the Opposition members continued their protest.
Amid the uproar, Higher and Technical Education Minister Kalicharan Saraf replied to the question. Soon after, the Speaker adjourned the House till 12.30 pm.
When the House reassembled, senior BJP MLA Rao Rajendra Singh was elected Deputy Speaker of the House, unanimously.
Later, Opposition members again started their protest and shouted slogans.
Congress MLA Ramesh Meena raised the issue of dispute over the spelling of the community's surname (Mina or Meena) and demanded that the government write a letter to the Centre stating that both the surnames are the same in order to end the confusion over it.
Amid the pandemonium, the House passed four bills: Rajasthan Co-Operative Societies (Amendment) Bill, Rajasthan Panchayti Raj (third amendment) Bill, Rajasthan Panchayti Raj (fourth amendment) Bill and Rajasthan Municipalities (second amendment) Bill before being adjourned for the day.
