Patna:

Demanding special category status for Bihar, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad on Saturday said this was imperative for development of the state.

"Bihar should be given special category status without which its development cannot be possible," he said at a meeting of party workers in Patna.

He blamed the then NDA government at Centre for according special status to Bihar after its bifurcation in November 2000, as demanded by the ruling RJD at that time.

Prasad said Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who was a senior Cabinet minister that time, was making that demand now.

On the reverses suffered by RJD in Lok Sabha polls, he said it was because of organisational factors and lack of communication with the people.

He asked partymen to stop bickering and shun their vaulting ambition.

"It is no use indulging in blame game. It is time to rebuild our party and launch a big stir against the inefficient Bihar government, which is fooling people in the name of development and good governance," he said.

Prasad said the RJD-LJP combine lost as the workers failed to properly propagate the development works done by him and Ram Vilas Paswan, leader of LJP, another fourth front ally.
