Patna:
If the BJP has its petrol-driven rath for campaigning, RJD chief Lalu Prasad has come up with a perfect foil: the horse drawn carriage locally called "Tumtum". And the poor man's rath, he insists, will remind people of the broken promises of the Narendra Modi government.
On Wednesday, Mr Prasad instructed his partymen to hire at least 50 horse carts for campaigning in each constituency.
"Let the BJP campaign on the four-lane highways, we will campaign in the single lane of rural heartland through these horse-driven carts," Mr Prasad told his partymen in Patna.
"The poor state of these horse carts," he said, "will remind people of the price rise and unfulfilled promises of the Narendra Modi government which promised 15 lakh to each voter and special status, special economic package and special attention to Bihar."
In the meantime, the alliance's Chief Ministerial candidate Nitish Kumar today started Parcha pe Charcha - a spin on the BJP's Chai pe Charcha campaign sessions which proved a runaway hit during last year's parliamentary elections.
In Parcha pe Charcha, the party organises street meetings during which the people are informed about the success of the 10-years tenure of Nitish Kumar and the failure of the 13-month-old Narendra Modi government.
Although Mr Kumar is not part of Parcha Pe Charcha, but he is likely to take part in "Dus Tak" - another campaign format, in which for a fortnight, party workers will knock at the doors of 10 residents in each neighbourhood every day and discuss the last decade.
During the last year's Lok Sabha elections, the RJD chief had opened 'Lalu tea stalls' across Bihar. The party had claimed that it was Mr Yadav who had started life as a tea seller and not Mr Modi.
