New Delhi: A Delhi Court today sent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) lawmaker Manoj Kumar, arrested in a case of alleged cheating and land- grabbing, to judicial custody till July 25. The Court has also fixed the hearing on the bail application of Mr Kumar on July 16.
The AAP leader was arrested on July 9 for allegedly selling a plot for Rs six lakh in November 2012 to complainant Vinod, who later came to know that the land did not belong to the lawmaker.
The police had argued before the Court that the document showing Mr Kumar vas owner of the said property is fake. They claim that the real owner of the plot is one Mr Chandrakala, who has given a statement to the police saying the property was never sold to the lawmaker.
Police said that this was an old case relating to Mr Kumar's alleged land fraud which was registered against him last year; a case of cheating was registered later.
Mr Kumar is the second lawmaker of AAP to be arrested.
Earlier on June 9, the then Law Minister Jitender Singh Tomar was arrested on charges of possessing fake degrees. He had to resign from the Cabinet later and has been in judicial custody since then.
AAP has accused the BJP government at the Centre of victimizing its leaders with a political agenda.
