Pulwama: Two terrorists suspected to belong to the Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba have been killed in an encounter, still on, in Pulwama in south Kashmir.

Another terrorist is believed to be holed up in a house in Kakapora village, about 32 kilometres from Jammu and Kashmir capital Srinagar.

The terrorists attacked a police party that reached the village to conduct a search operation after receiving a tip-off that Lashkar terrorists were hiding there, a police officer said.

He said the terrorists saw the police team approach and opened fire at them. The police fired back.

Rashtriya Rifles personnel and other reinforcements were rushed to the site and the security forces have cordoned the area off. The exchange of fire has now been on since 4 pm.

Sources said a Pakistani terrorist captured after attacking a Border Security Force or BSF convoy in Udhampur on Wednesday, may have met those involved in today's Pulwama encounter.

Interrogation of the terrorist, identified as Mohammad Naved, has reportedly established that he infiltrated into India 65 days ago and was in Pulwama in the last week of July.

The 22-year-old captured terrorist has allegedly told interrogators that he was trained by the Lashkar-e-Taiba in Pakistan. He has allegedly said that the man he attacked the BSF convoy with, was not known to him and had infiltrated with another group of terrorists.

Naved told investigators that they had orders to kill security personnel.
