Late monsoon, not a bad monsoon?

Late monsoon, not a bad monsoon?
New Delhi:

Is the monsoon turning out to be a late one rather than a bad monsoon?

After the downpour in the last few weeks, the rainfall deficit that was 55 per cent in June has now come down to 23 per cent.

The last three-four weeks have had 'normal' rainfall. The rainfall deficit is improving every week.

"There has been very good rain throughout the country and more in the drought affected area. There has been very good rainfall in Maharastra, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Madhya Pradesh. So, standing crops will get  lot of advantage from the rains," said NB Singh, Agriculture Commissioner.

Ten days of good rainfall across the country will help the standing kharif crop, especially rice and pulses.

There is improvement in the rainfall, monsoon has come down to 22 per cent from last week's 27 per cent. After the recent rainfall, the total rain deficit in the country has now come down to 22 per cent, from the earlier 29 per cent.
