Coronavirus Cases in India: The recovery rate is 82.62 per cent.

New Delhi:

New cases of coronavirus infection in India were recorded over 3.50 lakh, taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 1,73,13,163 according to the Union Health Ministry data.

The COVID-19 active caseload is 28,13,658 which now comprises 16.25 per cent of the total infections.

The recovery rate is 82.62 per cent, the data stated.

A total of 3,52,991 new infections were registered in a day, while the death count increased to 1,95,123 with 2,812 daily new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed.

Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have assured India and its people of providing all assistance, including urgently sending necessary medical life-saving supplies and equipment, to help the country combat the deadly coronavirus crisis.

"Just as India sent assistance to the United States as our hospitals were strained early in the pandemic, we are determined to help India in its time of need," Joe Biden said in a tweet.

India was there for the American people in their hour of need and the United States will be there for the country as it meets its worst-ever public health crisis, US President Joe Biden said after his phone call with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The urgent help announced by the White House ranged from oxygen supplies, raw materials for COVID-19 vaccines, critical life-saving drugs to PPEs.

"India was there for us, and we will be there for them," Joe Biden said in a tweet.

"Today, I spoke with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and pledged America's full support to provide emergency assistance and resources in the fight against COVID-19," he said.

Canada said it backed the use of Johnson & Johnson's Janssen COVID-19 vaccine despite reports of rare blood clots, noting the issue had first been identified in doses made by AstraZeneca PLC. The federal health ministry said on Twitter it "continues to consider the benefits of vaccination to outweigh these very rare potential risks, and supports the use of the Janssen and AstraZeneca vaccines."

The first Canadian deliveries of Janssen doses are due this week.

Two hospital staff held for hoarding Remdesivir drug in UP
Two private hospital staff were arrested for allegedly black marketing the antiviral drug Remdesivir used to treat COVID-19 patients in Pilkhuwa area, the police said. A vial of the life-saving drug and cash worth Rs 82,000 were also recovered from the accused, police official Naresh Kumar Singh said.

5,058 people test positive for COVID-19 in Uttarakhand
Uttarakhand reported 5,058 new COVID cases and 67 deaths on Monday, officials said. Maximum 2,034 cases were reported in Dehradun district, 1,002 in Haridwar, 767 in Nainital, 323 in Pauri, 283 in Udham Singh Nagar, 135 in Almoda, 104 in Champawat, they said.

The number of coronavirus infected people in the state has gone up to 1,56,859, while 1,12,265 patients have recovered. There are currently 39,031 active cases in the state and the death count is 2,213.

Bengal logs record 15,992 new COVID-19 cases, 68 more deaths
West Bengal registered 68 deaths due to COVID-19, the highest so far in a single day, pushing the count to 11,009, the health department said. The state also reported record 15,992 fresh infections, which took the tally to 7,59,942, the department said in its bulletin. Kolkata alone accounted for 26 deaths, followed by North-24 Parganas at 11, South-24 Parganas at seven, Hooghly at five and Malda at four.

Maharashtra records 48,700 new COVID-19 cases, 524 deaths in last 24 hours
Maharashtra recorded 48,700 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, according to the state health bulletin. The state also recorded 71,736 discharges and 524 deaths in the last 24 hours. With this, the total cases in the state mounted to 43,43,727 including 6,74,770 active cases and 36,01,796 discharges. The death count, however, surged to 65,284 including the new deaths.

Around 50 Ghaziabad administration officials including the chief medical officer and the police head tested positive for COVID-19 Monday, a day after District Magistrate Ajay Shankar Pandey was found infected with the virus, officials said.

Coronavirus News: Iran Covid death count passes 70,000

The Covid-19 death count in Iran passed 70,000 on Monday, according to health ministry figures, with a record 496 coronavirus deaths in the past 24 hours.

Iran is battling the Middle East's deadliest outbreak, and is struggling amid the latest wave of the infections.

Monday's figures bring the total number of deaths to 70,070, with over 2.4 million cases.

The previous record single-day death toll was 486 in November, AFP reported.
