Darbhanga:
President Pranab Mukherjee was received by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar at the airport today, but not everyone was as welcoming.
After the Chief Minister and the President arrived in Darbhanga, clashes erupted near the venue of a college where Mr Mukherjee was the chief guest.
The police lathi-charged a group of demonstrators who were protesting against traffic jams and other alleged inconveniences caused by the President's arrival.
Before that, the Chief Minister used his lunch for the President to lobby for special status for Bihar, which would entitle the state to special financial assistance from the Centre.
Earlier this year, the Centre rejected his request. He has now undertaken a tour of the state to win public support and raise awareness of his economic agenda.
