Dushyant Chautala is an Indian National Lok Dal MP and country's youngest parliamentarian
New Delhi:
The country's youngest parliamentarian, Indian National Lok Dal MP Dushyant Chautala, today reached Parliament to attend the Winter Session on a tractor. When asked why the unique ride, the 29-year-old lawmaker from Haryana's Hisar, said, "if PM can use a sea plane why can't I come on a tractor."
PM had, a day before Gujarat voted in the second phase of polling in the state, flown in a seaplane from the Sabarmati river in Ahmedabad to Dharoi Dam, about 180 km away. There was some controversy over the PM riding the single-engine seaplane - the security rule-book says the Prime Minister can only fly in twin or multi-engine aircraft.
Mr Chautala also said that he rode on the green-coloured tractor to parliament in protest against tweaking of certain rules relating to the Motor Vehicles Act which, he claimed, would add to farmers' woes.
"I rode the vehicle to protest tweaking of rules under the Act declaring tractor as mere vehicles and not agricultural vehicle. The change in rules will mean the selling price of the vehicle will go up, farmers will have to pay toll for using it to transport goods," he told news agency PTI.
The amendment also intends to put a limit on loading farm produce in tractor which will further increase the farmers' woes, he added.
Mr Chautala said he had flagged the issue at an all-party meeting held ahead of the session yesterday and brought the concern to the notice of Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari. "I had demanded permission from the Lok Sabha Speaker to reach Parliament on tractor," he said.
