A 45-year-old lawyer was on Sunday shot dead reportedly by his relatives over a land dispute in Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh, police said.
The incident took place in Shivpur village of Gagha area, they said.
The man has been identified as Rajeshwar Pandey. He was practicing at Gola tehsil in Gorakhpur, police said.
Two persons have been arrested in the case, they said.
"On Sunday morning, Rajeshwar had some argument over land with the grandfather of his relative Chanki Pandey aka Prem Kumar Pandey. After a heated argument, someone fired at the back of the lawyer from close range. He was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to injury on the way," a police officer said.
SSP Sunil Kumar Gupta said fathers of Rajeshwar and Chanki are brothers and both the families were involved in the land dispute over a long time.
"We have received a complaint from the family of the deceased. The names of five accused have come up in the matter. Two persons have been arrested and search is on for the rest of the three accused," he said.
