Ahmedabad:
The Bar Council of Gujarat has called lawyers in the state to boycott their work tomorrow in support of a strike call given by the Bar Council of India to protest against alleged police brutalities on lawyers in Jaipur and Chandigarh.
"The BCI has called a strike to protest police brutalities on lawyers in Jaipur and Chandigarh and lawyers in Gujarat have been asked to show their solidarity by boycotting work tomorrow," BCG chairman Dilip Patel said.
The BCI had passed a resolution in this regard and demanded action against police officers responsible for the alleged 'inhumane' treatment of lawyers in the two cities.
More than a dozen lawyers were injured in a police lathi charge a few days ago in Jaipur, when they were on their way to submit a memorandum of demands to Rajasthan Governor Margaret Alva.
They were allegedly attacked when they were proceeding towards the state assembly.
In Chandigarh also, there was a violent clash between lawyers and the police.
