Laxmikant Parsekar to be Goa's Next Chief Minister

Laxmikant Parsekar was chosen unanimously at the legislature party meeting

Panaji: Goa Health Minister Laxmikant Parsekar has been chosen as the state's next Chief Minister, BJP leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy announced today after a legislature party meeting. Mr Parsekar was chosen unanimously, said Mr Rudy who along with BS Yeddyurappa has been sent to Goa by the party's central leaders as observers.

"I am very much happy to be unanimously elected to the post of chief minister," Mr Parsekar said.

Manohar Parrikar, who is expected to become the next Defence Minister of the country, earlier resigned as Goa Chief Minister. Mr Parrikar faxed his resignation letter to Governor Mridula Sinha at Raj Bhavan this afternoon, after meeting the Archbishop.

"The swearing-in of the new CM would be held at 4 pm," Mr Parrikar said minutes before faxing his resignation. With his resignation, entire state cabinet comprising 12 ministers, two of which were from Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP), was dissolved.

The fresh cabinet would be sworn-in along with the new chief Minister.
