Along with his wife and three-year-old daughter, Sankalp Anand drove from Delhi to Mathura in Uttar Pradesh and the family then jumped in front of a train. Santosh, 38, and his wife were killed. Their child, Riddhima, survived miraculously and is with her grandparents in Delhi after being treated for serious injuries.
Sankalp's father, Santosh Anand, a famous Bollywood lyricist, is devastated. "We will live for our granddaughter," he told NDTV.
The police have found an 11-page suicide note from the car that Santosh left near the train track early on Wednesday morning. In it, Sankalp alleged deep corruption at the National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Sciences, where he worked as a lecturer. The training college for police officers and others is funded by and reports to the union Home Ministry.
In his note, Sankalp alleged that he was being threatened and blackmailed by top officials at the institute and he was ending his life "due to the extreme pressure inflicted upon me by my own wrong-doings and the wrong-doings of others." He names two senior police officers and said they were part of a construction scam and job racket in the institute.
