Left protests against fuel hike in Kerala

Kochi: The Left led trade unions are agitating in Kerala on Tuesday against the Centre's decision to hike fuel prices. The strike called by the trade unions has paralysed normal life across the state.

Private buses, auto-rickshaws and taxis are off the roads. However, two-wheelers and private cars were seen plying.

The strike has also affected functioning of the public sector BPCL Kochi Refinery, Limited. Though truck movement was affected, pipeline transfers and wagon movement was normal, official sources said.

Public sector Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore Limited recorded about 90 per cent attendance, while it was 73 per cent in Cochin Shipyard Limited.

No untoward incident was reported from anywhere in the city, police said. (With PTI inputs)
