Lepers banned from entering Gandhi land
Rajkot:

The district administration in Porbandar has banned lepers from entering the town during four-days of 'Janmashtami' celebrations.

The notification issued on August 4 by Additional District Magistrate M H Joshi said that entry into Porbandar by those suffering from leprosy has been banned from August 13 to 17.

The notification also says that the order has been issued as a precautionary measure to check spread of communicable diseases among people who throng "Lokmela" in lakhs organised every year here by Porbandar district authority on the occasion of 'Janmashtami'.

A senior official of the district, which is the birth place of Mahatma Gandhi, said the decision had to be taken to avoid outbreak of any disease like swine flu, which is spreading rapidly in the country.

The object to issue the notification is not to hurt anyone's sentiments but to check outbreak of miserly disease, he said.
