Let's have competition of development between Gujarat, Delhi: Narendra Modi to PM: Highlights
Bhuj: Here are the highlights of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's Independence Day speech:

  • When we talk about independence, the map of Gujarat naturally flashes before our eyes
  • Both the non-violent and revolutionary paths to independence went through Gujarat
  • Both Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel were from Gujarat and so were many illustrious revolutionaries who hailed from Kutch.
  • The country got Independence but have we achieved true independence? We need to change our thought to gain true independence
  • I had hoped that the President's concerns on Pakistan would have been addressed by the PM from the Red Fort but that was not the case
  • At least the PM's word should have strengthened the morale of the Armed Forces of India
  • Pak Army comes in and kills our soldiers. The limit of tolerance is worrying
  • I echo the President's thoughts
  • The game of corruption is being played and till the Supreme Court intervenes, it goes on
  • The President's speech is a matter of concern for all of us
  • I was listening to the PM's speech today so that I get some inspiration
  • Our motto has been - Gujarat's development for India's development. This is our duty
  • I was very disappointed and not me, the entire country is disappointed
  • PM in his speech has unfortunately remembered only one family... would it not have been befitting to remember Sardar Patel or Lal Bahadur Shastri?
  • There should have been no politics in your speech... Lal Bahadur Shastri or Sardar Patel are people from your own party
  • What happened yesterday with the naval submarine was sad. We salute our soldiers who were martyred in rescue operations in Uttarakhand
  • But the PM did not give any credit to any of the state governments or volunteers who worked there. I am not talking about Gujarat but other states
  • Aap ek parivaar ki bhakti mein itna doob gaaye hain ki aap ko desh ke intne bade jansamooh ko pehchane me dikkat ho rahi hai
  • The PM said the same things as Pandit Nehru said 60 years ago. So what had the Congress done for this country?
  • I am standing here in Kutch from where my voice reached Pakistan first and Delhi later.
  • The centre's policies are responsible for the hindrances in the economic growth of the state.
  • The people in Delhi are just putting salt on the plates of the poor, someone claims  you can get a meal for 5 rupees, another says 10 rupees.
  • We have not opposed the bill, but there are deficiencies which the PM is not willing to discuss.
  • See how  inflation has impacted India. the poor are going to sleep without food. Isn't it our responsibility to see that they get food?
  • The media says this is the PM's last I-day speech and he says 'we have a long distance to cover.' "Kis rocket mein chad kar fasla tai karoge, Pradhan Mantri Ji!"
  • We will rid India of the slavish mentality, of corruption and rebuild the trust of the people.
  • India needs independence from the arrogance of its rulers, from this atmosphere of insecurity.
  • The people of the country will be forced to take radical steps since they don't believe in the promises of the government.
  • In Gujarat's development, six  crore Gujaratis have the biggest hand.
  • And all previous governments have contributed. We have stepped up the pace of development.
  • We must seriously think how will our policies benefit the man sitting in the farthest corner of India.
  • States are not ranked on how they implement proper central schemes anymore.
  • You have not changed the rules of the game, you have changed the playing field.
  • For many in the PM's team, their world seems limited to Modi, Let us have a competition of development between Gujarat and Delhi.
  • Mr PM, your brigade is busy targeting Modi on their computers. Don't they have a world beyond Modi?
  • On Independence Day, they could've at least sung the national anthem!
  • The PM spoke of skill-development, We have already started work on skill development.
  • We are concerned about the employment opportunities in Gujarat. In 2001, there were 11 universities here, today there are 42.
