Kolkata:
The CPI(M) is worried about the quality of newcomers joining the party and the lifestyle of party leaders and workers which, in many cases, deviates from Communist values.
These were some of the observations made by CPM general secretary, Prakash Karat, at the ongoing state committee meeting of the West Bengal unit of the party.
The 83-member state committee is deliberating on the political situation in West Bengal after the reverses in the recent Assembly by-polls.
The lifestyle of party workers and leaders is clearly being seen as one of the reasons of the party's electoral setbacks. At the meeting, Karat placed the rectification document adopted by the Central Committee last month which proposes strict action against deviations in Communist morality and ethics by party members.
Prakash Karat also called for a nationwide campaign against Maoist-Trinamool links and violence against the CPI(M). Maoists, he said, were being used to weaken the Left movement.
