India has recorded the biggest single-day jump of 5,611 new coronavirus cases, with the total cases hitting 1,06,750, including 3,303 deaths, Union Health Ministry figures this morning show. 140 deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours. The country's recovery rate - number of patients who have successfully fought the illness - stood at 39.62 per cent this morning. 42,298 people have recovered, the Health Ministry said.
Passenger train service will expand from the existing 15 trains to more than 200 starting next month. The service will involve non-air conditioned trains, which had not been allowed so far. The 15 trains that have been running since May 12, are air-conditioned trains and the passengers are required to maintain rules of social distancing and use masks and sanitisers.
In a tweet today, the Railways said apart from the Shramik Special trains, it would run "200 additional timetable trains daily from June 1, which will be non-air conditioned second class trains and booking of these trains will be available online".
Information on the trains will be made available soon, the Railways said.
India has crossed the 1 lakh-mark in the number of coronavirus cases as 4,970 new patients were registered in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 1,01,139. Of 3,163 deaths linked to COVID-19 reported so far, 134 people died in the last 24 hours.

A six-year old girl died in western Uttar Pradesh's Mainpuri district on Tuesday morning after she was hit by a speeding truck, as she and her parents waited for a bus arranged by the state government by the side of a road, hoping to get home to their village in Sitapur district. The United States recorded another 1,536 coronavirus deaths over the past 24 hours, the Johns Hopkins University tracker said, reported AFP. That figure raises to 91,845 the total number of COVID-19 deaths in the US. US tops the global rankings both for the highest death toll and the highest number of infections, with more than 1.5 million cases.
Around 300 seafarers from Goa stranded in Italy will be flown back to the Union Territory on two special flights today. Speaking to ANI, Airport Director Gagan Malik said that around 300 people will reach Goa today while another flight will land on Thursday. The first flight will come around 8:30 am and the second flight will come around 3 pm. The repatriated passengers will be tested for coronavirus and will then be sent to 14-day quarantine, Mr Malik said.
175 stranded Indian from Bahrain arrived at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad on an Air India flight earlier on Tuesday, reported ANI. The phased repatriation is being done under the Vande Bharat Mission, whose second phase started from May 16. Under the second phase, a total of 149 flights, including feeder flights, are expected to bring back stranded Indians from 40 countries.
Two men, including one who recently returned from Dubai, tested positive for coronavirus in Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday, taking the tally of total positive cases to 93 in the state, reported PTI. The 21-year-old man from Dubai travelled to the state from Ammritsar, where he landed, on May 13. Upon arrival, he was quarantined in the state's Kangra district. The man who returned from Dubai is a resident of the Chamba district while the other from Mumbai is from the Una district, Special Secretary (Health) Nipun Jindal said.
Two people who returned to Jharkhand from Delhi have tested positive for coronavirus, reported ANI. One of them is from Latehar while the other lives in Jamshedpur, the state Health Secretary said. The state now has 233 cases, the Health Secretary said.
28 fresh coronavirus cases have been reported in Jammu and Kashmir, taking the total number of cases in the Union Territory to 1,317, reported ANI.
Out of 28 new cases, 22 were reported from the Kashmir region and six from Jammu region, a government bulletin said. The union territory has 653 active cases - 551 in Kashmir and 102 in Jammu. 17 people have died so far in the Union Territory.
The United Kingdom's COVID-19 death count has reached nearly 43,000, underlining the country's status as the worst-hit in Europe and raising more questions about Prime Minister Boris Johnson's handling of the crisis.
New figures for England and Wales brought the death count to at least 42,990, a Reuters tally showed, including earlier data from Scotland and Northern Ireland, as well recent hospital deaths in England.

Hawkers in West Bengal on Monday threatened to stage a protest if they are not extended cash support by the government, insisting that merely allowing them to reope their stalls will not help them tide over the coronavirus crisis, reported PTI.
The Mamata Banerjee-led government had earlier in the day said that hawkers' markets will be allowed to reopen from May 27.
"We have told our hawker friends to be ready for protests if cash support is not received for six months either from the centre or the state government. Already, hawkers are surviving on their business capital," National Hawker Federation general secretary Shaktiman Ghosh told PTI.
Residents of some housing societies in Mumbai's Ghatkopar protested on the streets on Monday demanding that the coronavirus quarantine centre be shifted from the Cama Lane locality, police said, reported PTI.
The 150-bed quarantine facility was set up in a building located in front of residential buildings.
Shops can reopen in Delhi and buses, autos and taxis can run with limited passengers, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said today, adding that the lockdown would be extended till May 31. Markets will open on an odd-even basis but shops selling essential items can open every day."
Saloons in rural Tamil Nadu have been allowed to reopen from tomorrow, the state government said in its guidelines for the fourth phase of lockdown which ends on May 31.
