COVID-19 Live Updates: Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman today announced the fifth tranche of Centre's Rupees 20 lakh crore fiscal stimulus package amid the lockdown situation in the country.
"All districts will have an Infectious Disease Hospital Blocks, Public health labs will be set up in every block (not just in district), to bridge inadequacy of lab network in rural areas. The Prime Minister has said that we need to be ready and self-reliant, in the face of challenges posed by any pandemic such as COVID-19. Hence, there is a big emphasis on setting up hospitals and labs, with both public and private funding," Ms Sitharaman said.
"The public expenditure on health will be increased. Investment at grass root levels will be ramped up for health and wellness centres, both in rural and urban areas," she added.
Maharashtra on Saturday reported 1,606 coronavirus cases in 24 hours, taking the total past the 30,000-mark. Mumbai's aggregate reached 18,555 with 884 people testing positive in a single day. Coronavirus cases in Gujarat crossed the 10,000 mark today with the total number of casualties in the state at 625. India recorded 3,970 new coronavirus patients and 103 deaths linked to COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 85,940 cases, Union Health Ministry said this morning, a day after the country surpassed the virus tally of China where the pandemic originated in December. India is now is ranked 11th in the world in terms of coronavirus cases.

While the first two announcements concerned MSMEs, non-banking finance companies (NBFCs), migrant workers and street vendors, the third round of her announcement focused on agriculture and farms produced related administrative reforms.
