The coronavirus death count in Delhi climbed to 303, while 792 fresh cases of COVID-19 were reported today, the highest single-day spike in the city, authorities said. The previous highest spike in fresh cases -- 660 -- was recorded on May 22. This is the first time in Delhi that over 700 COVID-19 cases have been reported in a day. The Delhi health department said, the death count from coronavirus infection has risen to 303, and the total number of cases mounted to 15,257.

Religious places in Karnataka could open on June 1 if Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has his way. The Chief Minister said he has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting that Karnataka be allowed to reopen temples, mosques, churches and other religious places.

The nationwide count of coronavirus cases has crossed 1.5 lakh after 6,387 people tested positive for the deadly virus infection in the last 24 hours. The total cases in the country stood at 1,51,767, including 4,337 deaths, according to data from the Union Health Ministry.

All Shops Except Those In Malls In Hyderbad To Open From Today
The Telangana government decided to open all shops except those in malls in Hyderabad from Thursday.

The Telangana Chief Minister's Office said, "The government has decided to open all shops except those in malls in Hyderabad from Thursday. Since permission to open alternative shops has been given, people are crowding the shops. Hence, it has been decided to permit all the shops to open except those in malls in Hyderabad."

The government said that customers and shop owners have been urged to follow the COVID-19 guidelines strictly, news agency ANI reported.

5 Persons Test Positive For COVID-19 In Manipur, Total Rises To 44
Five persons tested positive for COVID-19 in Manipur on Wednesday, taking the total number of cases in the state to 44, according to an official statement.

There are 40 active cases in the state at present, while four persons have recovered, it said.

The number of people in institutional quarantine in the state is 3,746 and those in community quarantine is 10,293, the statement said.

All those found to be positive have returned from outside the state recently and were in isolation, officials said.

Churachandpur district with 18 COVID-19 patients has the highest number of active cases in the state, they said, news agency PTI reported.

Coronavirus News: Assam Chief Minister Makes COVID Norms Mandatory In Flood Relief Camps
Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has asked the state administration to impose strict maintenance of COVID-19 protocols in the flood relief camps across the state.

The instructions came after the Chief Minister held a series of review meetings with top officials of state disaster management force and other departments.

"The Chief Minister directed for ensuring all COVID-19 protocols like social distancing, hand washing, wearing of masks etc at the flood relief camps so that community spread of COVID-19 cases can be contained during the flood season," the Chief Minister's Office said.

Mr Sonowal directed the district administrations to ensure that no irregularities take place while distributing relief materials. He also issued directions for releasing of ex-gratia within 48 hours by district administration for those losing life in floods.

Coronavirus Update: No Decision Yet On Reopening Of Schools
Board exams for Classes 10 and 12, pending due to the lockdown, could be held in July, after which the schools might re-open, Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank told NDTV today. He, however, made it clear that the final decisions would depend on the ground situation at the time and the ministry will be guided by the views of the health and the home ministries.

The gradual easing of the lockdown across the country had raised hopes about the reopening of schools and colleges and there has been speculation about a beginning being made in June.

The minister, however, said the any tentative date would be more than a month away. "From July 1 to 15, there will be exams and the schools will open after the exams," the minster told NDTV.

Asked how the exams can be held in July, when the India's coronavirus cases are likely to peak, the minister said: "We cannot predict what will happen in July. We will abide by the home ministry and the health ministry decision. The safety of students will be paramount".

"I am confident the situation will be normal. If it doesn't get better, we will consult the ministry, student, parents. We will consider all the suggestions," the minister added.

Coronavirus News: 3 Delhi Civic Body Officials Test Positive For COVID-19
Three employees of New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) have tested positive for COVID-19.
The civic body has now sealed a floor of its headquarters in Lutyen's Delhi and a section of another building housing its office in Gole Market.

"In view of three employees working in accounts department and commercial department of NDMC being found COVID-19 positive, it has been decided to seal the sixth floor of Palika Kendra and the commercial department in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Place, Gole Market," a civic body official said.

Delhi Farmer Spends Rs 70,000 On Air Tickets To Send 10 Migrants Home
Amid heart-breaking stories of jobless and penniless migrant workers being forced to walk or cycle hundreds of kilometres in searing heat in a desperate bid to return home, a kernel of good news and hope has emerged from a Delhi village.

Pappan Singh, a mushroom farmer from Tigipur village in the capital, has paid Rs 70,000 for air tickets to send 10 of his labourers - migrants from Bihar - back home. He has also, for nearly two months now, been feeding and sheltering them.

For people like Lakhwinder Ram, who has worked with Pappan Singh for over two decades, this means he can return to his family with his health and dignity intact, unlike thousands of fellow labourers. This is his first air trip ever.

Coronavirus News: Kerala To Open Liquor Outlets Tomorrow
Liquor outlets in Kerala are set to open on Thursday. To avoid long queues and crowding, the state government has facilitated online booking through the app 'BevQ'. While no home delivery of liquor will be allowed, QR codes for collection through the app are being provided. Only 5 people are allowed to wait before an outlet at any point of time and only takeaways are allowed.

Under the system, once a person registers and selects a time slot for the closest liquor outlets as shown by the app, a confirmation is received in the form of QR code, token number, outlet details and time.

The app has been developed by a Kerala-based Start-Up Faircode Technologies Private Limited.

For those who do not have smart phones, an SMS facility has also been initiated to a designated number.

From Maharashtra, Railways "Spreading Corona To Bengal": Mamata Banerjee
Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today picked up Kerala's refrain, accusing the Railway Ministry of sending the special trains for migrants without any prior notice and disrupting the state's methods to contain the coronavirus. Accusing the railways of "evacuating Maharashtra and spreading corona to Bengal" and playing politics with both states, she sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi's intervention.

Altogether 225 trains are expected to arrive in Bengal from across India, 41 of them will be from Maharashtra, the state with the maximum number of coronavirus patients. So far, only 19 trains have arrived, but already, areas in the north and central parts of the state -- Malda, Murshidabad and North Dinajpur. -- where migrants are making their way, have started reporting a jump in cases.

Coronavirus Lockdown News: Flight Services In Bengal's Bagdogra Airport To Resume Tomorrow
Flight services at West Bengal's Bagdogra airport will resume from tomorrow with 10 flights per day, airport director Subramani P said on Wednesday.

"We are resuming flight operations from May 28 with 10 flights per day. As per precautionary measures, we have made marking to ensure social distancing at the airport. We have also installed automatic electronic devices for scanning and screening," Mr Subramani told ANI here.

Coronavirus Update: 445 Domestic Flights Carrying 62,641 Passengers Operated On Tuesday, Says Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri
Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on Wednesday that a total of 445 domestic flights carrying 62,641 passengers operated on Tuesday.

He said that the airports functioned smoothly on the second day of the recommencement of domestic services in India.

On Monday, a total of 428 flights had operated in the country.

India resumed its domestic services on Monday after a gap of two months. All scheduled domestic services were suspended in India from March 25 to May 24 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"Our skies & airports are busy again. On 26th May, the 2nd day of the recommencement of domestic passenger flights in India, our airports handled 62,641 flyers on 445 departures & 447 arrivals.
