Coronavirus Highlights: India COVID-19 Cases Rise To 1.45 Lakh, Death Count At 4,167

The total cases in the country stood at 1,45,380, including 4,167 deaths, according to data from the Union Health Ministry.

Globally, the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases has surpassed 5.3 million.

 The nationwide count of coronavirus cases has crossed 1.45 lakh after 6,535 people tested positive for the deadly virus infection in the last 24 hours. The total cases in the country stood at 1,45,380, including 4,167 deaths, according to data from the Union Health Ministry. 

The Civil Aviation Ministry has allowed chartered flights to resume their operations from Monday, the day when the scheduled domestic passenger flights also started. The ministry said "non-scheduled and private operators" of fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, and micro-light aircraft can resume their domestic flights from May 25 onwards. The ministry has also issued guidelines for the passengers. 

The fourth phase of the nationwide lockdown imposed as a measure to stem the spread of COVID-19 is scheduled to end on May 31. 

Globally, the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases has surpassed 5.3 million.

Coronavirus news: Germany extends virus distance rules to June 29

Germany has extended social distancing rules aimed at containing the spread of the coronavirus epidemic to June 29, Chancellor Angela Merkel's government said on Tuesday.

Up to 10 people will be allowed to gather in public places but Germans should be in contact with as few people as possible, according to the rules agreed between the federal government and 16 states, AFP reported.

Coronavirus news: Air India security staff tests positive for coronavirus

A 50-year-old man, who is a member of the security staff in Air India, has tested positive for coronavirus.

The man is a permanent resident of Delhi, ANI reported. 

According to the District Public Relations Office, Ludhiana, the man came back from Delhi on May 25 onboard a domestic flight.

Following a spurt in COVID-19 cases in Chhattisgarh, the Health Department on Tuesday declared 95 areas, from where these cases were recently detected, as containment zones, officials said.

For the first time in Odisha, a doctor has tested positive for coronavirus infection, PTI reported.

Coronavirus news: Only institutional-quarantine for incoming passengers, no home-quarantine allowed: Assam government

The Assam government Tuesday decided that home-quarantine will not be allowed to people coming from outside and they will be sent for institutional-quarantine, as the number of coronavirus cases rose by 139 to reach 682. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary said the state Cabinet stressed the need for strict quarantine of people coming from outside, PTI reported.

Coronavirus news: 1 lakh people complete COVID-19 quarantine period in Odisha

As many as 1 lakh people, mostly migrant workers returning from other states, have completed their quarantine period in Odisha, which continues to change its strategies to contain the spread of COVID-19, a top official said.

Odisha's model of coronavirus management has been appreciated by "one and all" as well as its morbidity rate that is "lowest (0.46 per cent)" in the country, Chief Secretary AK Tripathy said.

"This is an evolving crisis and, therefore, our strategies should be well calibrated. Our response is fast and flexible," he said.

Odisha has 777 active COVID-19 cases, while 733 people have so far been cured, PTI reported.

Coronavirus News: Gautam Buddh Nagar Reports 3 New COVID-19 Cases, Total At 362
Three more people, including a government hospital staff, tested positive for coronavirus in Uttar Pradesh's Gautam Buddh Nagar on Tuesday, pushing the number of cases in the district to 362, officials said, reported PTI. Also, nine have been discharged from hospitals after being cured, they said.

Coronavirus News: 369 COVID-19 Cases Reported In Central Reserve Police Force So Far
One new COVID-19 case was reported in the Central Reserve Police Force, reported ANI. The total number of positive cases have now risen to 369, said the CRPF on Tuesday.

Out of the total number of cases, 226 patients have recovered while 141 patients are currently active cases.

Coronavirus News: Assam Makes Institutional Quarantine Mandatory For Those Returning From Outside State
The Assam government on Tuesday stressed on strict quarantine protocol for those coming to the state from outside, stating that those returning will mandatorily have to stay in institutional isolation, reported PTI. At a meeting of the council of ministers (CoM) chaired by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonwal, it was decided that in view of the spike in COVID-19 cases in Assam, the guidelines of quarantine will be strictly enforced, minister Chandra Mohan Patowary said. It was decided that people coming from outside the state will be sent for institutional quarantine and no home isolation will be allowed, he said.

Coronavirus News: Coronavirus Cases In Mumbai Rise To 32,791 With 39 Deaths
With detection of 1,002 new cases on Tuesday, the number of the people infected by coronavirus reached to 32,791 in Mumbai, a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) official said, reported by PTI. The city also reported 39 fresh deaths due to COVID-19, taking the total count to 1,065, he said. Of the 39 deaths, 25 patients had comorbidities. A total of 410 patients were discharged from hospitals in the day, taking their count to 8,814. "A total of 866 new suspected patients were admitted to various hospitals on Tuesday," he said.

A guest house of Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL) in Shimla was sealed on Tuesday, an official said, reported PTI. HPPCL guest house in Sandasu of Rohru subdivision was sealed after a man who was quarantined there tested positive for coronavirus, he said. Rohru sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) BR Sharma issued the orders to seal the guest house, the official said.

Coronavirus News: Four Employees Of Pharma Firms Test Positive In Gujarat
At least three employees of Intas Pharmaceuticals Limited and a manager working with Zydus Cadila Healthcare Limited have tested positive for coronavirus in Gujarat's Ahmedabad district, an official said on Tuesday, reported PTI. Plants of both these major pharma companies are located on Sarkhej-Bavla Highway on the outskirts of the city. "Three employees of Intas Pharmaceuticals and a manager working at Zydus Cadila plant have tested positive for coronavirus," chief district health officer Satish Makwana said in a statement.

Odisha Governor Ganeshi Lal on Tuesday urged people to make wearing face masks a common part of their lives, reported PTI. The governor made this appeal while releasing a special cover on "COVID-19, global pandemic" and a pack of 10 picture postcards at the Raj Bhawan. Wearing a mask is one of the preventive measures to limit the spread of novel coronavirus, he said. "Through this special cover, an appeal has been made to the public to wear masks as a way of life," the governor said. The design of the cover is based on the artwork of Apindra Swain, a pattachitra artist of Raghurajpur village in Puri district.

Coronavirus News: Rapid Action Force Deployed In Thane To Enforce Lockdown Rules Amid Rising Cases
Considering the rise in COVID-19 cases and people flouting lockdown rules in some areas, jawans of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) have been deployed in hot-spots of Maharashtra's Thane district, an official said on Tuesday, reported PTI. The district has recorded 6,044 COVID-19 cases so far, of which 183 persons have died of the infection. RAF jawans carried out a flag march in Mumbra near Mumbai, while some units were deployed in Lokmanya-Sawarkar Nagar, Wagle Estate and other areas, which have reported several cases, the official said.

Coronavirus News: 197 New COVID-19 Cases Reported In UP In 24 Hours
Uttar Pradesh Principal Health Secretary Amit Mohan Prasad on Tuesday confirmed 197 new COVID-19 cases in the state in the last 24 hours, reported ANI.

"197 new positive cases have been reported in the last 24 hours. The number of active cases of COVID-19 has risen to 2,680 in Uttar Pradesh," Mr Prasad said while addressing a press conference.

"3,698 people have been discharged while 170 deaths have been reported till date," he added.

Coronavirus News: India Testing 1.1 Lakh Samples Daily, Says Top Medical Body ICMR
India has reported about 0.3 deaths per lakh population which is among the lowest in the world, the Health Ministry said today at a press conference. ICMR said testing for coronavirus has scaled up significantly. Over 1.1 lakh samples are now being tested per day at 612 labs across the country.

Coronavirus News: Zomato, Swiggy Begin Home Delivery Of Alcohol In Odisha
Leading food ordering and delivery platforms Zomato and Swiggy on Tuesday started home delivery of alcohol in Odisha, less than a week after starting similar services in Jharkhand, as part of efforts to prevent overcrowding of people at shops amid the coronavirus pandemic, reported PTI. Starting with Bhubaneswar, the company will soon expand to other cities like Rourkela, Balasore, Balangir, Sambalpur, Berhampur and Cuttack, Zomato said in a statement.
