PM Modi US Visit Highlights: He will also hold talks with Scott Morrison and Yoshihide Suga today.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on an official US visit, met with US Vice President Kamala Harris in Washington DC. Kamala Harris is the first woman, the first Black person and the first Indian-American to become the Vice President of the United States.

Earlier, PM held bilateral talks with his Australian counter Scott Morrison. Prior to meeting Vice President Harris, he held one-on-one meetings with the CEOs of Qualcomm, Adobe, First Solar, General Atomics and Blackstone in Washington.

PM Modi met US Vice President Harris on September 23, along with other state heads like Australia's Scott Morrison and Japan's Yoshihide Suga.

This was the first in-person meeting between US VP Harris and PM Modi, after the two talked over phone in June amid the deadly COVID-19 wave in India.

PM Modi, who is on his seventh visit to the US since assuming office in 2014, traveled to New York on September 24 and addressed the UN General Assembly the next day.

PM Narendra Modi, Japanese Counterpart Hold Talks

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Yoshihide Suga had a "fruitful meeting" and the two leaders discussed ways to boost trade and cultural ties and further cement the bilateral strategic relations ahead of the first in-person Quad meeting to be hosted by US President Joe Biden.

"Furthering friendship with Japan," the Prime Minister's office said in a tweet after the meeting on Thursday.

"Prime Ministers @narendramodi and @sugawitter had a fruitful meeting in Washington DC. Both leaders held discussions on several issues including ways to give further impetus to trade and cultural ties," the tweet further said.

PM Modi and Suga spoke in April this year and the two leaders underscored the importance of working together to create resilient, diversified and trustworthy supply chains, ensuring reliable supply of critical materials and technologies, and developing new partnerships in manufacturing and skill development to deal with the crisis.

"Source Of Inspiration": PM Modi on Kamala Harris
"India and America are natural partners. We have similar values, geopolitical interests," PM Modi said in a joint media appearance with Harris.

Noting that India and the US are the largest and oldest democracies, PM Modi said the two countries share values and their cooperation is also gradually increasing.

This is the first meeting between the two leaders. Harris had earlier spoken with Modi over the phone in June during the COVID-19 crisis in India.

"I am confident that our bilateral relations will touch new heights under President Joe Biden and you," PM Modi told Harris, describing her as "a source of inspiration for many people in world". He invited Harris to visit India.
