Modi 3.0 Cabinet Live: Amit Shah takes charge as Home Minister

Amit Shah, S Jaishankar, Ashwini Vaishnaw, and JP Nadda were among the senior BJP leaders who assumed their respective offices in the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led cabinet today.

Mr Shah, Mr Jaishankar and Mr Vaishnaw are among the BJP leaders, including, Rajnath Singh, Nirmala Sitharaman, and Nitin Gadkari, who have retained the ministries they handled in the previous government.

Ministries have been allocated to the 71 ministers who joined the Modi 3.0 in a grand swearing-in ceremony on Sunday with the Prime Minister himself handling the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, the Department of Atomic Energy, and the Department of Space.

Among new entrants to the Union Cabinet are former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who has got Agriculture and Rural Development Ministries, and BJP president JP Nadda, who has returned to the Health Ministry.

HD Kumaraswamy Takes Charge As Heavy Industries Minister
JD(S) leader and former Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy took charge as the Union Minister for Heavy Industries on Tuesday.

Mr Kumaraswamy, 64, has also been allocated the Steel Ministry portfolio. "Today, I took charge as Minister of Heavy Industries. I don't want to say that I will do everything. I need some more time. I need to take all information from the senior officials about the problems and how we will solve them. I need two to three days for this," Mr Kumaraswamy told reporters after taking charge.

After taking charge as Union Minister, Mr Kumaraswamy met senior officials of the ministries and head of the public sector undertakings (PSUs).

"We Should Use Vocal Power For Good Debate Inside House": Kiren Rijiju
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday said there was no need for the government or the opposition to pull each other down on the basis of numerical strength and asserted that he will reach out to everyone for smooth functioning of Parliament.

Assuming charge as Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Mr Rijiju said the government is yet to take a call on the dates of the first session of Parliament after the constitution of the 18th Lok Sabha.

Officials said the first session could be held in the last week of June.

"The Session dates are under discussion. I cannot share right now," Mr Rijiju said.

Mr Rijiju assumed charge as the Parliamentary Affairs Minister in the presence of his predecessor Pralhad Joshi and Ministers of State Arjun Ram Meghwal and L Murugan.

"We need not pull each other down on the basis of numerical strength. People use muscle power outside Parliament, but inside the House, we should use vocal power for good debate," he said when asked about the increase in the strength of the opposition in the Lok Sabha.

Piyush Goyal Assumes Charge Of Ministry Of Commerce And Industry
BJP leader Piyush Goyal took charge of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in the national capital on Tuesday.

He was welcomed by Jitin Prasada, MoS, Ministry of Commerce and Industry and other officials of the Ministry.

L Murugan Takes charge As Junior Minister For Information, Broadcasting
BJP leader L Murugan on Tuesday assumed charge as minister of state for Information and Broadcasting and said the ministry plays a key role in executing state policies by acting as a communication bridge between the government and the people.

L Murugan, a Rajya Sabha member from Madhya Pradesh, was welcomed by I&B Secretary Sanjay Jaju and other senior officials.
He held the same portfolio in the previous government, thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for reposing his faith in him.

Rural Development Priority Of Narendra Modi Government: Shivraj Chouhan
India lives in its villages and rural development remains a priority for the Narendra Modi led government, Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Tuesday as he took charge of the Rural Development ministry.  

The 'Lakhpati Didi' scheme aimed at enabling women to earn Rs 1 lakh per annum is among the key focuses of the government, Mr Chouhan, who has been chief minister of Madhya Pradesh for four terms, said.

"The prime minister has another dream we want to fulfil, that is the dream to have 'Lakhpati Didis'... women empowerment is a mission of our government," the veteran BJP leader said.
