Srinagar: National Conference leader Omar Abdullah today hit out at Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti for not taking responsibility for the unrest in the valley triggered by the killing of 22-year-old terrorist Burhan Wani last month.

"Between 2009-14 everything was my fault but as of the last four months nothing is @MehboobaMufti's fault (sic)," the former Chief Minister wrote on Twitter, using a hashtag 'LivingInDenial' to take a dig at Ms Mufti.

Ms Mufti, who made her maiden speech at an Independence Day function as chief minister, said, "Encounters have taken place in the past, will continue to take place. What was my government's fault?"

She also said the blame for the state's problems lay with the state and the country's leadership since Independence. "In one way or the other, the mistakes have been on part of the state's leadership... and the leadership of our country - from the time of Jawaharlal Nehru to today," she said.

Referring to the embarrassing incident of the national flag falling to the ground when Ms Mufti tried to unfurl it at the function in Srinagar, Mr Abdullah said the Chief Minister will have to find someone to blame for the fiasco.
