Surajkund, Haryana: Senior BJP leader L K Advani on Sunday likened Prime Minister Narendra Modi to a batsman who becomes Captain in the very first Test match he plays and scores a triple century.
Mr Advani used the cricket analogy to praise Mr Modi for leading the party and the national alliance it leads to a thumping victory in the recent general elections. The alliance, NDA, has won 336 seats in the Lok Sabha, of which the BJP accounts for a record 282 seats.
"In test cricket we have heard of players who score a century or a double century on their debut. But I do not know of any batsman who becomes a captain in the very first Test he plays and scores a triple century! This is Narendrabhai's unique achievement," the veteran leader said.
Mr Advani was delivering the valedictory address on the second and final day of an orientation workshop for first time BJP members of Parliament in Surajkund on the outskirts of the capital.
Mr Modi, 63, too is a first time Lok Sabha MP. When the party named him its candidate for Prime Minister before Assembly elections to key states last year, Mr Advani, 86, had gone public with his disapproval of the move.
