LK Advani slams government over ordinance on convicted politicians: Highlights

New Delhi: BJP leaders today met President Pranab Mukherjee over the ordinance cleared by the Union Cabinet recently over convicted politicians.

LK Advani addressed the media after meeting with President. Here's what he said:

• This provision in the constitution has been declared ultra vires by the Supreme Court
• To dilute the Court's order, the govt is making such an arrangement where there will be two kinds of MPs in Parliament
• People who have been convicted are almost being given permission to stay - maybe they will not get paid or get other privileges
  
• Today we met the President because we know the ordinance will come to him for consent .. we've requested him not to give his assent

• We had made this request in public - now we've met the President and made this request in person
• The ordinance is illegal, immoral and unconstitutional
